SHORT HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The PRIORESS of MANTHES, which is at the origin of the current village of MANTHES (Northern), was rested by the Benedictines about CLUNY, which were civilizing country and lived there a long time by working the surrounding grounds

Because of the disorders of times, Clunisiens reflect some their grounds under the safeguard of the lords who, little by little became the administrators of the goods. In XVIème century, the Legal settlement gives to the hands of the King the majority of the abbeys and the history of the Priory of MANTHES

The building, which was very altered during centuries, would have its very first origins in XIème and XIIème centuries (MANTHES is quoted in the files to have sheltered in 1033 two clunists of the old Observance).

But the greatest part of the building seems marked well by the Renaissance time.
